I remember reading on Best Buy Canada's website that if you pre-order the game you get access to the Beta... I wonder if that goes for Mac too or just PC. But yeah, I can't wait to see how well it will end up running on the 13" MBP with the "killer graphics"!

Preorder the game from gamestop and you get a beta key also.

All of the Verizon stores around me (Lawrenceville/Buford GA) were sold out of the 16GB Ipad's. I decided to call up to the store in Athens, which is only about 35 minutes from my house, and sure enough, they are holding one for me until I get off work. It sounded like they have plenty up there, due to the fact that when I asked if they had any 16GB's the gentleman said, many do you need? I was kind of shocked due to Athens being the college town and figured this would be the first place to sell out of them. Anyway, keep looking people...they are still out there.

no, he doesn't. and thankfully it should mean that he'll have no chance of getting anywhere near being President.

I didn't know who he was before I googled his name. Thought he was the model for Ken, from the Barbie range. (When he was younger) he looks like plastic.

    Thanks for your suggestion, Will.

However, some strange things are going on over here. As I mentioned, I have installed OSX on an external HD (connected via FW800), but my internal HD doesn't even show up in Disc Utility. I assume that my internal HD has gone to heaven.

The new setup (using the external HD) works quite well, but this is of course only a temporary solution.

Agreed we are spoiled. Unfortunately the U.S. has a horrible infrastructure as far as public transportation and such so many people live far from their jobs and have to drive everywhere.

I remember in New Zealand paying $4 something per liter

Here where I live at the Sheetz gas stations its $3.75.

Yes and that is the discussion here in Sweden. As you might know we have a big chunk of our population out in the woods far from any larger cities and these areas are slowly dying in favor of urbanisation. And without any communion service worth mentioning these people suffer from the high gas prices as you might guess.

Either way, didn't mean to offend anyone mattcube64 :)

I have an 06 Mac Pro that was in need of a video card upgrade. The unit came with a Nvidia 7300GT and I bought an ATI Radeon HD 2600XT to add to it. I have the ATI Radeon on lane 1 so it will get the full X16 and put the 7300GT on lane 4 to drive my second monitor so it will get x8 instead of x4 on another slot. My question is, the 7300GT sits with the heatsink nearly touching the hard drives above it, does this cause overheating issues with the card at all? If so should I move the card to another slot? This would either give me x4 on the 7300GT or I could configure the slots to give x8 each, but that wouldn't allow the 2600XT to run at x16 full performance. Another question, running 2 separate cards for each monitor would give me better performance if I use the better card for graphic intensive apps/games than driving both monitors off the 2600XT correct?

The AWS 1700/2100 is a weird beast. And yes, the FCC, as well as TMobile, would have rather harmonized the band allocation with the rest of the world.

The problem is, the reverse allocation (phone to "tower") in the european 2100 band overlaps our existing american 1900 band.

So the FCC had to come up with some weird split band with the free allocations it had, creating a really weird beast that requires custom radios on both the handset and "tower" side.

Also, in case anyone is wondering, the 1800 band has been allocated to the US federal government. Among many other things, a benefit of which is to operate ad-hoc/covert communication networks using commodity european band GSM gear. Go figure.

With the AWS allocation, we will never have a 1800 band either even if the feds ditch it.

In terms of this "analyst" report, what a bunch of idiots. I also highly doubt that apple would create a special iPhone or modify its globally distributed product for what may only be 1-3 million subscribers a year from now. Especially since AWS band handsets will need additional RF circuitry at additional cost due to its obscurity and lack of support on multiband chipsets.

I think that AWS will come only by chance when it just happens to be cheaper than the existing chipset they are using.

I think this is actually kind of a cool idea. I've done that before where I've been somewhere, and then finding out that my friends were there and all that good stuff. If you have your own close knit friends, no one is going to break into your house when you're gone, and as far as the privacy rights go, why post something you don't want everyone to see? I mean really lol

I can't defend Apple's rejection of this app, because it doesn't make sense to me. However, I can see how Apple's approval policy can lead to unintended consequences. If we view Apple as evil, then of course we will see nothing but malevolent intent. However, if we think about how the process actually works, we should realize that some of these things are predictable. I don't work for Apple, but I expect that like any organization that employs human beings, there will be variation in judgement based on the fact people are different, and the reality that it's impossible to account for every scenario. The idea that Apple can make every prohibited type of app crystal clear does not make sense to me. There are always situations that can't be covered 100%. There are trade-offs as in all of life. Lack of flexibility always comes at a price, so you do the best you can. The reviewers at Apple are like everyone else in society. Some are mature (not necessarily meaning older) people with good insight and can make good judgements when they interpret the rules. Others try to make decisions based on an interpretation of the rules that is not based on what most of us would consider good judgment.

There are situations, such as Apple's attitude regarding Flash on the iPhone OS, when we know where the entire company stands. Sometimes we can't be sure that a decision reflects the entire company. So when people claim that "Apple" is doing something to screw someone over, sometimes it's a specific individual at Apple; someone who may not share the same perspective as the senior leaders at Apple, or even another Apple employee 10 feet away from them.

I guess one could argue that scalpers are inflating at&t's numbers.
I chose AT&T for my second gen ipad because I've had every iPhone and iPad on day one and AT&T has treated me good with no issues.
That being said my vzw work droid is defiantly slower but has better coverage.

When you see a picture of a lens, on an invitation, where would anyone
even begin to draw a conclusion that the updates for the MBP would be
forthcoming at this event. People want things so bad they set up their own
personal mirage at anything Apple says or does.

They will update. Apple knows what they are doing. And I suspect that they
won't be to upset when one or two people on here decide to go to a PC because
of a chip. I don't care if my computer was 1/2 the speed of a PC, I wouldn't
use Windows over OS X anytime.

Good luck to all you wishers and dreamers. One day you will get what you want.

Capacitive home button sounds believable as apple has gone away with buttons on the MacBooks trackpad. Apple likes touch, not clicking. Lol

The button on the MacBook trackpad is still a physical button; it's just that the entire trackpad clicks, rather than a small area at the bottom.

    You just made his point

Hmm, so if I choose a OS that is more intuitive to use, more easier to use, I am not tech savvy anymore?

If I had to use Android, i could. After three days of using Android, I pretty much know the ins and outs of that OS but I still find it more difficult to use than my iPhone.

Same could be applied to Windows vs Mac. Sure, I know how to use Windows enough to troubleshoot it and stuff but why use it when I can just use a Mac and have a much happier time using it since it's so user friendly/easier to use?

I don't want to purposely use what's overly complicated just to be called tech savvy thank you very much.

    Apr 26, 06:40 AM
All true... but what happens when you replace the hard drive? Willing to buy one from Apple with the OS preinstalled?

Thats what the USB stick is for - you boot from it like you used to do from DVD and install - that simple.

USB sticks are too expensive and take too much time to duplicate "en masse". DVDs are very cheaper and take few seconds to duplicate if even that since they are being pressed (not burned in the case of mass duplication). USB sticks are also more expensive.

It doesn't make sense to go to a USB only distribution model, at least from a cost basis. As for Mac App Store... meh... why not do downloads outside of the Mac App Store, I don't want to use that POS. I've been installing OSes from HTTP and FTP since the mid-90s, no need for a "Mac App Store" to do it. What happens if I don't have a 10.6 or 10.7 installation going and just want to wipe the computer ? Linux has been doing network installs from nothing. Upon purchase, just provide a USB thumb-drive image I can put on any 1 GB thumb-drive to boot into the installer where I put in my purchase code or something. No need for the "Mac App Store".

Funny how history repeats itself (or better the comments on current events) ... those are the same arguments that I heard when computer manufactures started to get rid of the Floppy drive: but CDs are so much more expensive, I can't get everything on CD, people don't know how to handle them, ....
Also: don't compare the price of big read/writeable USB sticks in the store - with a fixed (read-only) image they can be mass produced fairly cheap - yes DVD might be a tiny bit cheaper for now - but there are other cost savings with the tiny USB sticks compared to the big DVD boxes (packaging, shipping, storage, .... and you save the money to put the DVD drive in the machine)
Lets face it: the DVD is at the end of its life cycle, it was great for its time but now is the time to say good bye.

At this point in time most non-enthusiasts are barely comfortable reinstalling an OS. They'd be totally lost if OS X wasn't on a disc. I'm sure Apple doesn't want to have to deal with all the extra support calls and will provide Lion on DVD for any Mac that has a SuperDrive. DVDs are on their way out but still have a lot of mainstream life in them.

even non-enthusiasts manage to put a USB stick in the right slot. You know, even my father (who does not know anything about computers and sometimes scares me with his very naive computer questions) knows how to put his USB stick in the computer to copy some pictures to it. If he can handle to put a DVD in the drive to boot and reinstall, he can handle to put a USB stick in the right slot to boot and reinstall.

We are still in a transition period. There is zero reason to think 10.7 won't come on DVD. Not everyone -- actually most -- people in the U.S. do not have high speed broadband (4 Mbps or faster) service either because of cost or availability [stats here for the non-believers:,3343,en_2649_34225_38690102_1_1_1_1,00.html] . It would be suicidal for Apple to ship a multi-GB OS only via download. Especially Apple home users, who bought into Apple because of it's ease of use, are not going to sit for hours as their new shiny OS downloads, then sit for another 15-30 min as it installs.

Why? You don't need high speed internet to put a USB stick in your computer, no need to wait for hours, just plug it in and be happy.
